eMi’s “Build Africa Together” Campaign

In January 2013, I plan to join my friend, Jeff Austin, a handful of his colleagues at eMi: East Africa and a few other adventurous souls to trek to the rooftop of Africa, Mount Kilimanjaro.

The Lemosho Route (Eight Days)

The Reason

More than just a chance for a great adventure, this is a significant opportunity to partner with an organization that makes a difference.

Engineering Ministries International (eMi) is a non-profit Christian development organization made up of architects, engineers and design professionals who donate their skills to help the poor around the world step out of poverty and into a world of hope. As we climb, I will walk alongside men and women who are giving their professional skills to help build Africa through designing anything from clean water projects to orphanages, schools, churches and retreat centers. Check out a few of their projects by clicking here.

The Goal

Part of the purpose of the climb is to raise funds for needed eMi office facilities. The overall fundraising goal is $175,000. When I signed up for the climb, I agreed to raise at least $2,000 toward the overall goal.

I would love to set the bar a little higher, however, so I am challenging people to “climb Kilimanjaro with me” by collectively giving $5,895 – a dollar (USD) per meter of Kilimanjaro’s elevation.

Here is what I am willing to do, if people help me reach this fundraising summit:
  1. When we reach $5,895 in funds given to eMi, I will immediately add $500 to the total, bringing the total to $6,395.
  2. After that, if we can add $605 to reach $7,000 in total funds (including my $500 in personal funds), I will give another $500 to bring the total to at least $7,500!
Various people have committed to help me with the cost of flights, gear and the climb itself. I have set these fundraising goals in hopes of maximizing the benefit to eMi.
