This morning, I discovered that Google Maps provide 3D models of driving directions. If you would like to see the drive from the Kilimanjaro airport to Arusha, Tanzania, which is a town near the base of Mount Kilimanjaro, click here. If you have Google Earth on your device, then after you follow the link to driving directions, you can click the “3D” button next to “Driving directions to Arusha, Tanzania,” and the map will take you on a 3D drive from the airport to Arusha. It’s kind of like watching your vehicle from a helicopter that’s hovering over it while you drive. I thought it was pretty cool.
The map below is set to show a 3D version of Mount Kilimanjaro, with Arusha, Tanzania in the foreground. If the map below indicates that you do not have Google Earth on your device (or if the map below looks decidedly two-dimensional), then you will need to install Google Earth before the above instructions will work.
